Taiwanese laptop giant MSI has announced the start of its manufacturing operations in India with its first production facility located in Chennai. This strategic move aligns with the Indian government’s \”Make in India\” initiative to boost local manufacturing. As part of its local manufacturing push, MSI will roll out Indian-made versions of two popular laptop models: the MSI Modern 14 and MSI Thin 15. According to a company statement, these devices will meet global standards while catering to the growing domestic demand for high-performance laptops.
India: A key market for MSI
India has emerged as one of MSI’s fastest-growing markets, with the brand continuously expanding its footprint across the nation. MSI expressed excitement about contributing to India’s thriving tech ecosystem by offering locally produced laptops that combine affordability and international quality.
Enhanced accessibility through retail expansion
To improve product accessibility for Indian consumers, MSI is enhancing its presence across physical and online retail channels. The company plans to increase its touchpoints by opening more exclusive laptop brand stores and expanding availability through major retail chains like Croma and Reliance Retail.
Pricing and future configurations
The India-made Thin and Modern laptop series will be priced competitively, starting at Rs 73,990 and Rs 52,990, respectively. MSI also announced its intention to introduce more advanced configurations in the Thin series to meet the varying needs of Indian users. The company emphasised that India has remained a critical market for the brand. The rising demand for high-performance laptops played a significant role in the company’s decision to start local manufacturing.
