Punjab National Bank (PNB) is bringing quantum computing and AI into the banking sector with the launch of India’s first bank-led Quantum Finance Innovation Hub at Amaravati Quantum Valley.
PNB has partnered with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to establish the hub, which will bring together financial institutions, startups, researchers, universities and technology companies. The initiative aims to develop practical applications of quantum computing and AI that can address some of the banking industry’s most pressing challenges. The Government of Andhra Pradesh and Punjab National Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Quantum Finance Hub at Amaravati Quantum Valley. The agreement was signed in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and PNB Managing Director and CEO Ashok Chandra.

With the initiative, PNB becomes the first Indian bank to partner with a state government to create a dedicated innovation hub focused on quantum computing and AI for banking and financial services. The hub will act as a collaborative platform connecting the banking industry with academia, startups, research institutions, government agencies and technology partners. The focus will be on developing real-world solutions in areas such as cybersecurity, fraud detection, risk analysis, portfolio optimisation, operational efficiency, customer experience and secure digital banking.
The initiative comes as banks face increasingly sophisticated cyber threats and growing risks from financial fraud. While digital banking has made financial services faster and more accessible, it has also created new challenges around data security, fraud prevention and risk management.

Through the Quantum Finance Hub, PNB and the Andhra Pradesh government aim to explore how quantum computing and AI can help address these challenges.
