In a move towards sustainable, clean and green energy, Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati’s official convoy has adopted electric vehicles. The move reflects the institution’s commitment to environmental responsibility and green mobility in India.

The move comes in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to citizens to cut fuel consumption amid global uncertainties in the oil market.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi recently downsized his convoy by nearly half as a symbolic step to reduce fuel consumption.

The state administration’s actions signal a broader step towards clean green mobility and energy independence across India.

Green Mobility in India: Transition Inside Governments

The Lok Bhavan has been fully transitioned to solar-powered operations. It got a 500-kilowatt rooftop solar power system installed on the premises to promote renewable energy use and reduce dependence on conventional electricity sources.

This green initiative has been in practice for more than a year, reflecting a consistent effort towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.

The Governor’s residence has become what state officials describe as a net-zero energy campus, setting an example for state-run offices across Odisha.

State Leadership Rallies Behind PM Modi’s Economic Self-Defence Call

PM Modi, while addressing a gathering in Secunderabad, urged citizens to prioritise work from home, cut fuel consumption, avoid foreign travel for a year, adopt Swadeshi products, shift to natural farming and curb gold purchases.

The Chief Minister also urged people of Odisha to minimise the use of private vehicles and make greater use of public transport, advising citizens to use vehicles only when necessary and avoid unnecessary travel to conserve fuel.

Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Minister of Commerce & Transport, Steel & Mines, Odisha, has requested people to reduce fuel consumption and increase the use of electric vehicles (EVs).

Subsidies for EVs have been extended till 2028 to encourage wider adoption of clean transportation. Government officials in the state have framed the fuel-saving measures as essential steps to protect foreign exchange reserves and bolster India’s economic stability.
