Major Telcom Giants to Build Strategic, AI-Ready Digital Backbone
Tata Communications joins hands with RailTel to build AI-ready digital infrastructure in India and global markets.

Tata Communications and RailTel Corporation of India Ltd have agreed to a strategic collaboration to build an advanced, artificial intelligence (AI)-ready digital infrastructure. The partnership aims to strengthen digital networks in India and serve global customers.

Partnership Aims and Strategic Scope

Under the agreement, Tata Communications will bring its global network, cloud platforms and cybersecurity capabilities to combine with RailTel’s extensive optical fibre footprint across India.

RailTel, a Navaratna public sector unit, operates over 63,000 route kilometres of fibre connecting more than 6,000 railway stations, towns and rural regions.

The collaboration focuses on modernising network infrastructure, improving resilience, enhancing cyber protection and enabling secure cloud adoption for sensitive workloads. Both firms said AI-enabled platforms will be integrated to improve network performance, reliability and operational visibility.

Impact on Digital Services and Networks

For RailTel, the tie-up expands its offerings in data centres, managed services, cloud and cybersecurity. Tata Communications expects to extend its digital services into important public and enterprise environments nationwide.

Ministries, state governments, public sector units and enterprises that rely on RailTel’s network could see faster connectivity and stronger data safeguards under the partnership.

Citizen-facing services such as railway Wi-Fi, public broadband, surveillance systems and digital governance platforms may also benefit from improved infrastructure performance and reliability. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement.
