Perplexity AI has introduced a new tool called Personal Computer, expanding its push into agent-driven productivity software. The application is currently available for Mac users and builds on the multi-model orchestration system the company rolled out earlier this year with Perplexity Computer.

A more hands-on AI assistant for everyday work

Personal Computer is designed to move beyond passive assistance. Instead of simply responding to queries, it can actively interact with a user’s files, applications, external connectors, and the web to carry out multi-step tasks. The idea is to create a more unified workspace where local and cloud-based resources work together seamlessly.

According to the company, this approach not only streamlines workflows but also strengthens privacy by keeping sensitive operations closer to the user’s device.

Built for continuous, real-time workflows

One of the more notable use cases highlighted by Perplexity involves running the system on a Mac mini as a dedicated, always-on machine. In this setup, Personal Computer can operate continuously in the background—handling ongoing processes, managing files, or maintaining secure access to applications.

Users can also monitor or trigger tasks remotely via their smartphones, making it possible to stay connected to their workflows even when away from their desks.

From simple prompts to task execution

The tool is built to handle both basic and more involved requests. For example, a user can ask it to review a to-do list—or go a step further and complete specific items. It can also work within native apps like Notes, where it interprets the request and decides how best to assist, rather than relying on rigid commands.
