Anurag Jain, a 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. According to an order issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), Jain will serve as the CEO of the government’s policy think tank for a period of two years.

Anurag Jain is a 1989-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre with more than three decades of experience in public administration. During his career, he has held several important positions in both the Madhya Pradesh government and the Centre, working across key policy and governance areas.

In 2024, Jain was appointed as the 35th Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, the highest-ranking bureaucratic position in the state. His tenure as Chief Secretary was later extended until August 31, 2026.
Over the years, Jain has been involved in major policy and governance assignments, gaining experience in both state administration and central government responsibilities. His appointment as NITI Aayog CEO now marks a move to a key national-level policy role.

As CEO of NITI Aayog, Jain will play a key role in coordinating with central ministries, state governments and other stakeholders on the government’s development and policy agenda.

His appointment comes after another major leadership change at NITI Aayog earlier this year. In April, the Centre appointed economist Ashok Kumar Lahiri as Vice Chairperson of the policy think tank, replacing Suman K Bery.
