Apple has released iOS 27 alongside its latest iPhone lineup, bringing a standalone Siri app, faster photo editing and new tools for managing photos and videos.

The update is available for iPhone 11 and newer models, though some AI features remain limited to newer hardware.

iOS 27 Gives Siri a New App

The biggest change in iOS 27 is Siri. Apple introduced a dedicated Siri app that supports ongoing conversations similar to Gemini and ChatGPT. You can also use Siri through the camera.

When users say “Hey Siri”, an orb appears in the Dynamic Island. Responses appear as communication cards that users can pull down to open the Siri app. The app tracks conversations, photos, and videos, letting users ask Siri to find content instead of searching manually.

Faster Photo Edits and Useful Tools

Apple has also improved the Clean Up tool in iOS 27. It now offers separate options for minor changes, more complex touch-ups and automatic edits. Auto mode speeds up the clean-up process.

Older iPhones, including base-model iPhone 15 devices and models dating back to the iPhone 11, do not support Apple’s AI features. However, iOS 27 adds practical tools for these phones.

Users can now save a still image directly from a video. By opening a video, tapping the three dots and selecting “Save Video Frame as Photo”, the chosen frame is saved to the Photos library without taking and cropping a screenshot.

The Photos app also gets a “Captured By Me” filter, which separates images taken with the device’s camera from photos received from other people.

Apple also unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone. It has a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera and a 48-megapixel Fusion Ultra Wide camera. Its foldable design supports Smart Take, Duo Preview and rear-camera selfies using the outer display. Apple says it is the thinnest iPhone when fully opened, switching between a compact phone and a larger, tablet-like screen.

iOS 27 puts Siri, photography and everyday content search at the centre of Apple’s latest software push, while the iPhone Duo extends those capabilities into a new foldable form factor.
