Semiconductor Push Gaining Momentum
The state is boosting efforts to become a semiconductor manufacturing destination, with multiple projects at various stages of planning and execution.
Officials said that Gujarat’s policy framework, land availability and power infrastructure have helped it secure early investor interest in chip fabrication and assembly units.
The semiconductor move is closely aligned with the central government’s incentives under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). State authorities are working to fast-track approvals and provide ecosystem support, including logistics and supply chain integration.
Industry executives note that Gujarat’s industrial base and port connectivity give it an advantage in handling global supply chains. The state is also focusing on developing ancillary industries to support semiconductor manufacturing, including chemicals, components and packaging units.
The initiative will generate employment, attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain, which remains heavily concentrated in a few countries.

Data Centres Standing as a Growth Engine
Alongside semiconductors, Gujarat is seeing a massive rise in interest in data centre investments, driven by growing demand for digital services, cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
Officials say several companies have either committed investments or are exploring opportunities to set up large data centre parks in the state. Reliable power supply, availability of land and proximity to key markets are cited as major factors driving this interest.
The state government is also working on policy measures to support data centre growth. This includes incentives for clean energy and faster clearances.
Industry experts say that Gujarat’s renewable energy capacity could help data centres meet sustainability targets, a key requirement for global firms.
The expansion of data centre infrastructure is expected to support sectors such as fintech, e-commerce and digital governance, while also strengthening India’s data localisation capabilities.

Growth Strategy Linked to National Tech Ambitions
Gujarat’s dual focus on semiconductors and data centres reflects a broader shift towards high-value manufacturing and digital infrastructure. The state aims to leverage these sectors to move up the industrial value chain and attract long-term investments.
Officials indicate that the strategy is designed to complement national initiatives aimed at boosting electronics manufacturing, digital economy growth and technology self-reliance.
With multiple projects in the pipeline, Gujarat is seeking to position itself as a key node in India’s emerging technology ecosystem, spanning chip manufacturing, data storage and digital services.
