Indore is set to have its multimodal mobility hub in Vijay Nagar. The area is a prime commercial and residential location that requires measures to reduce congestion and improvements in last-mile connectivity. The project is part of the city’s broader push to strengthen urban transport systems under its smart city roadmap.

“The proposed hub will integrate multiple modes of transport, including buses, intermediate public transport and non-motorised options, at a single location to ensure smoother commuter movement across the city,” said officials.

Integrated Transport to Address Traffic Pressure

Vijay Nagar is one of Indore’s busiest zones, with massive daily footfall; primarily driven by offices, educational institutions and retail centres. Traffic congestion in the area has been a major concern for both commuters and local authorities.

The planned mobility hub will channelise traffic, reduce dependence on private vehicles, and improve access to public transport. Aligning city bus services with feeder systems, such as e-rickshaws and other shared mobility options, is a priority for the authorities.

Urban planners indicated that the hub will focus on seamless interchange, allowing commuters to switch between transport modes without a delay. Dedicated spaces for pick-up and drop-off, pedestrian pathways, and parking facilities are also part of the proposed design.

Smart City Push for Sustainable Urban Mobility

The project aligns with Indore’s ongoing smart city initiatives, which prioritise sustainable and efficient transport solutions. By promoting multimodal integration, the city will further shorten travel times, reduce emissions & improve the commuting experience.

Officials said the development will also support future transport expansions and accommodate growing urban demand. The hub is expected to act as a model for similar infrastructure projects in other high-density areas of the city.

Work on planning and feasibility is underway, with further details on timelines and execution likely to be announced in the coming months.
