Bharat Taxi has become the world’s largest driver-owned mobility cooperative. The platform now has more than 6 lakh drivers and over 35 lakh app downloads.
The service was launched in February 2026 by Amit Shah, Union Home and Cooperation Minister, Government of India. It was created under the government’s “Sahkar se Samriddhi” vision, which focuses on growth through cooperation. Bharat Taxi is managed by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited. It is supported by eight major Indian cooperatives, including Amul.
Zero Commission Model Helps Drivers
Bharat Taxi works differently from regular cab aggregator platforms. The company does not take commission from drivers. Instead, 100% of the ride payment goes directly to the driver’s bank account.
Because of this system, many drivers have seen their monthly income rise by 25% to 30%. Drivers, called “Sarathis,” can also become co-owners of the platform. They only need to buy five shares worth ₹500 in total.

Lower Fares for Passengers
The platform also offers cheaper rides to passengers. Fares are around 15% lower compared to other ride-hailing apps. Bharat Taxi aims to create a fair system for both drivers and customers by reducing middlemen and extra charges.
