The Maharashtra government has approved a ₹5,575 crore expansion of the Navi Mumbai Metro network.
The proposed plan will pave the way for new corridors, additional stations and improved connectivity to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.

New Metro Corridor to Link Key Growth Centres
The approved plan covers Metro Line 1A and Metro Line 2, creating a continuous 28-kilometre corridor that will connect important residential, commercial and transport hubs across Navi Mumbai. The network is designed to provide direct access to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, one of the region’s most anticipated infrastructure projects.
Under the proposal, Metro Line 1A will extend connectivity between Sagar Sangam and CBD Belapur. The Metro Line 2 will connect Pendhar with the airport terminal.
Together, these lines will form an integrated transit corridor, reducing dependence on road transport.

What’s on the List: 13 New Stations
The expansion includes 13 new metro stations across major locations in Navi Mumbai.
Authorities said that the project will improve access to business districts, residential neighbourhoods and emerging economic zones while offering smoother last-mile connectivity.
Officials estimate that the expanded network could eventually serve around 12 lakh passengers every day. The metro is expected to ease pressure on roads, cut travel times and provide a more reliable alternative for commuters travelling across the city.

Navi Mumbai Metro Expansion: Part of the Larger Infrastructure Vision
The approval comes as Navi Mumbai continues to witness large-scale infrastructure investments.
This also includes the international airport and other transport projects, transforming the city into a major economic and logistics hub within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Construction is expected to begin during the 2027-28 financial year, with operations targeted for 2031-32.
Once completed, the project is expected to play a central role in shaping the future of urban mobility in Navi Mumbai. The project signals continued confidence in Navi Mumbai’s long-term growth story.
Improved public transport and direct airport access are likely to strengthen the city’s appeal for businesses, homebuyers and investors over the coming decade.
