India is set to take another step towards building self-reliance in space technology, with domestically produced semiconductors. “Expected to be used in the country’s space launch vehicles soon”, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw stated.
Vaishnaw made the announcement after meeting the leadership of private space technology company Skyroot Aerospace, shortly after its Vikram-1 Test Flight-1 successfully reached orbit. Sharing a post on X, the minister said, “‘Made in Bharat’ chips for our rockets… soon!”

The minister’s statement comes at a significant moment for India’s private space sector. Skyroot’s Vikram-1 Test Flight-1 marked the maiden flight of an Indian privately developed orbital-class rocket, highlighting the growing role of private companies in the country’s space ambitions. Responding to Vaishnaw’s post, Skyroot Aerospace thanked the government for its support and highlighted the momentum building around India’s deep-tech ecosystem.
“Honoured to meet Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw. India’s deep-tech ecosystem is accelerating – powered by forward-looking reforms, world-class digital infrastructure, and a strong commitment to innovation,” the company said in a post on X.
Skyroot also underlined its ambition to increase domestic hardware integration in its launch vehicles. The company said it was proud to build globally competitive space technology from India and looked forward to the day when India-built semiconductor chips would fly on its rockets.

The development also comes as the government continues to push for greater domestic semiconductor manufacturing and deeper integration of Indian technology across strategic sectors.
