Adani Enterprises’ Kutch Copper plans to integrate 115 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy into its Mundra, Gujarat, operations to cut carbon emissions, conserve water, and improve resource efficiency as it prepares to double its copper smelting capacity.
Kutch Copper outlined the plan in its maiden sustainability report, which sets out the company’s approach to environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations as it expands its manufacturing operations.

Kutch Copper Targets Lower Emissions as Capacity Expansion Advances
Kutch Copper currently operates a copper smelter with an annual capacity of 500,000 tonnes. It plans to increase this to 1 million tonnes per annum, a move that the company says would make the facility the world’s largest single-location custom copper smelter.
The proposed 115 MW renewable energy integration is a key part of its decarbonisation strategy. The company said the move would help reduce its operations’ carbon footprint and support its longer-term emissions goals.
Copper is widely used in electrical wiring, power transmission and clean energy technologies. Investment in the energy transition, electric mobility, and industrial expansion is supporting demand for the metal.
Kutch Copper said it intends to incorporate sustainability into business decisions, day-to-day operations, and stakeholder engagement as production grows.

Water Conservation and Sulphur Emission Controls
Alongside its renewable energy plans, the company highlighted its existing water management and pollution-control measures.
Kutch Copper said it operates using nearly 100% desalinated water and follows a zero-liquid-discharge approach. The system is intended to reduce reliance on freshwater and improve water conservation.
The company also reported treating 99.8% of its sulphur emissions, citing environmental technologies to support pollution control and environmental management.
These measures form part of its stated effort to balance manufacturing expansion with resource efficiency and environmental safeguards.

Adani Group Commits $1.2 Billion to the Project
The Adani Group has committed $1.2 billion to the project, the company said. Beyond its industrial operations, Kutch Copper said it is investing in community programmes covering healthcare, education, livelihoods and social development.
The group views the domestic copper industry as important to India’s ambition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2070, with green infrastructure and environmental management as part of that effort.
The key measure to track will be how Kutch Copper implements its planned 115 MW renewable energy integration alongside its proposed capacity expansion. Progress on emissions treatment, water conservation, and production growth will show how its sustainability commitments translate into industrial operations.
