India and Venezuela have agreed to strengthen their energy ties and build a long-term partnership following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez. The discussions took place during Rodriguez’s five-day visit to India.

Focus on Energy Cooperation
Energy was the main topic of the meeting. Venezuela said it sees India as a preferred energy partner because of its large and growing economy. India also expressed interest in expanding cooperation in both oil exploration and refining activities.
Crude Oil Imports on the Rise
India has increased its purchases of Venezuelan crude oil since April as it looks to diversify its energy sources amid supply concerns linked to the West Asia conflict. Venezuela has now become one of India’s top oil suppliers.

Cooperation Beyond Energy
The two sides also discussed expanding economic ties in several sectors. These include critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, automobiles, mining, and trade. Both countries see opportunities for stronger business cooperation in the coming years.
