India is positioning itself as a reliable partner in global electronics and supply chains, backed by policy support and growing domestic capabilities, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw stated while speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Google Cloud India AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, an event attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, along with Union and state officials and industry leaders.

The project, estimated at $15 billion (around ₹1.25 lakh crore), is being developed through a collaboration between Google Cloud, Adani ConneX, and Airtel Nxtra. At its core will be a 1 GW hyperscale AI data centre. The Andhra Pradesh government has allocated roughly 600 acres across Turluvada, Rambilli and Adavivaram to support the development.
Electronics manufacturing gains momentum
Vaishnaw noted that India’s strength in IT services is now being matched by steady progress in electronics manufacturing. Mobile phones, he said, have become one of the country’s leading export categories, while nearly half of domestic electronics demand is now met through local production.
Referring to the government’s Semiconductor Mission, he said commercial production has already begun and urged global technology companies to expand manufacturing of servers, GPUs and chips within India. He also highlighted the need to build capacity in emerging areas such as semiconductors, quantum computing, space technologies and artificial intelligence.
Visakhapatnam’s ‘AI Patnam’ ambition
Calling the project a turning point, Vaishnaw said Visakhapatnam is set to evolve into an “AI Patnam,” driven by advanced infrastructure and sustained global investment.
He credited Naidu’s long-standing focus on IT ecosystem development, adding that the data centre would have far-reaching impact across sectors including education, healthcare, logistics, agriculture and aerospace. The Minister also pointed out that Google has laid three subsea cables from Visakhapatnam, strengthening India’s connectivity to key international digital routes spanning Australia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the United States.

Industry signals long-term intent
From the industry side, Bikash Koley said the AI Hub would support India’s long-term development goals while anchoring its role in the global AI economy. Jeet Adani described the 1 GW hyperscale data centre as a milestone in India’s AI journey, adding that it would position Visakhapatnam as a key digital gateway. Taken together, the project underscores India’s push to scale up next-generation infrastructure while strengthening its role in global technology and supply chains.
