India’s geospatial and river management policy has received a fresh boost with Genesys International securing a ₹2.8 crore Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping order from the National Mission for Clean Ganga. The project aims to support river management and planning initiatives linked to the Ganga rejuvenation programme.

The order comes at a time when India is fortifying investments in digital infrastructure, smart governance, water resource management and geospatial technologies.

The contract further strengthens the growing role of GIS-based mapping in environmental monitoring and urban planning projects tied to the government’s clean river initiatives.

GIS Mapping Project to Support Ganga Mission

Under the contract, Genesys International will undertake GIS-related work for the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). The project is expected to aid data-driven planning, monitoring and decision-making for river conservation and associated infrastructure.

The plan aligns with the Centre’s broader focus on integrating digital mapping, spatial intelligence and satellite-based technologies into public infrastructure and environmental projects.

GIS systems are increasingly being used for river basin management, drainage monitoring, pollution tracking and land-use planning across multiple states connected to the Ganga river system.

The latest order also reflects rising adoption of GIS and geospatial technologies across government-led smart infrastructure and sustainability programmes.

Government Push Boosts Geospatial and Digital Infrastructure Sector

The NMCG contract adds to the momentum in India’s expanding geospatial sector, which has seen increased policy support in recent years. Government agencies are increasingly relying on GIS mapping, digital twins, LiDAR surveys and spatial analytics for large-scale infrastructure execution.

The Clean Ganga mission remains one of the country’s flagship environmental programmes, covering river rejuvenation, sewage treatment, riverfront development and ecological conservation projects across northern India.

Industry observers said contracts linked to digital mapping and smart infrastructure are expected to grow further as ministries and public agencies scale up investments in climate resilience, water management and urban modernisation.
