WT-MARUT: India’s First Wind Turbine Supply Chain Portal to Strengthen Manufacturing and Exports

India has launched WT-MARUT, its first wind turbine supply chain management portal, aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing, improving transparency and boosting renewable energy exports.

India has launched its first dedicated digital platform, WT-MARUT, to manage the wind turbine supply chain.

The progress marks a fresh push to strengthen local manufacturing and improve the country’s position in the global renewable energy market.

The platform was launched by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, during the Global Wind Day Conference in Goa. The initiative is aimed at increasing visibility of the wind energy supply chain while helping manufacturers, suppliers and developers work more closely together.

New Digital Backbone for India’s Wind Industry

The WT-MARUT portal has been developed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) with support from the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association.

It is designed to make component sourcing more transparent and to simplify coordination across the sector.

Officials say the platform will help manufacturers identify suppliers, track sourcing requirements and improve compliance with domestic manufacturing norms. The portal is also expected to support export readiness by helping companies align with global market requirements.

Push for Domestic Manufacturing and Export Growth

The launch comes at a time when India’s wind energy sector is witnessing strong momentum.

The country added a record 6.1 gigawatts (GW) of wind power capacity during FY26, the highest annual addition so far and around 46 per cent higher than the previous fiscal year.

India currently stands as the world’s fourth-largest wind energy market, with

more than 56 GW of installed wind energy capacity. However, only a small portion of its estimated wind energy potential has been tapped, leaving significant room for expansion.

The sector expects India to emerge as a larger supplier to global markets over the coming decade as countries accelerate clean energy deployment.

Supporting India’s Clean Energy Ambitions

The government sees wind energy as an important pillar of its broader renewable energy strategy.

Improved supply chain visibility and stronger domestic manufacturing capabilities are expected to play an important role in scaling future installations and reducing dependence on imports.

With demand for clean power rising both at home and abroad, the WT-MARUT platform is expected to help Indian manufacturers become more competitive while supporting the country’s ambitions to grow as a renewable energy manufacturing hub.

The launch signals the ongoing transition towards building stronger domestic clean energy supply chains.

As India targets higher renewable energy capacity and larger export opportunities, digital tools such as WT-MARUT could become an important link between manufacturing growth and global market access.
