Bengaluru is yet again in the news for its head-turner tech brilliance. A software engineer from the metropolitan area has modified a motorcycle helmet into an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered device that detects and reports traffic violations to authorities in near real time.

The innovation has gained attraction online and drawn interest from local traffic and police authorities.

AI Helmet Flags Violations on the Move

Pankaj Tanwar, a Bengaluru-based tech professional, shared on the social media platform X that he retrofitted his helmet with an AI agent that runs continuously while he rides.

The system scans the road, identifies traffic rule breakers, and captures evidence, including photos of offenders, vehicle license plate numbers and GPS location data. The details are sent directly to the city’s traffic police.

Tanwar posted a demonstration showing the device detecting a rider without a helmet and generating a report instantly.

“While I ride, the AI agent runs in near real time, flags violations, and provides proof with location and number plate, which goes straight to the police. Bengaluru people- so now ride safe… or regret it,” his X post read, which drew a mixed response from users.

Response and Potential for Civic Traffic Enforcement

The project has elicited widespread reactions on social media. Some X users cited the idea as a practical approach to grassroots innovation in Indian minds, while others questioned the scalability and accuracy.

The representatives from Bengaluru City Traffic Police have reached out to Tanwar to explore the viability of the idea and assess its real-time relevance for traffic monitoring.

The development comes amid growing use of AI and machine learning in urban traffic management, as cities adopt automated systems to enforce compliance and reduce road accidents.
