Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has launched an open-source autonomous coding agent that identifies software development problems and suggests solutions without waiting for direct developer instructions.
The prototype, called Super-Agent, marks the company’s latest move to compete with US artificial intelligence firms, including Anthropic, in the growing market for AI-powered coding tools.
According to DeepSeek’s Harness announcement team on WeChat, Super-Agent can monitor group conversations among software developers, identify coding issues, and propose solutions independently.

DeepSeek Super-Agent Aims to Reduce Developer Supervision
Unlike conventional AI coding assistants that respond to individual prompts, Super-Agent is designed to take a more proactive role in software development.
The agent can follow discussions among development teams, recognise problems and suggest possible fixes without requiring developers to issue specific instructions each time.
DeepSeek said its objective is to minimise the attention users need to give the system while maximising the value delivered through automated assistance.
The company has released the prototype as open-source software, allowing developers to examine its underlying implementation and experiment with its capabilities.

DeepSeek Steps up Competition with Anthropic’s Claude Code
The launch follows DeepSeek’s decision earlier this year to establish a dedicated Harness team focused on developing AI agents that can compete with products from leading American AI laboratories.
In AI development, a harness refers to the software infrastructure that lets an AI model coordinate tasks, use external tools, and manage more complex workflows.
Anthropic has used similar technology in Claude Code, its AI-powered programming tool, which enables developers to delegate coding assignments and other software development tasks.
DeepSeek’s latest release signals how competition between Chinese and US technology companies is moving beyond conversational chatbots towards AI agents that can carry out practical work for software engineers and business users.

DeepSeek Raises $15 Billion Ahead of Planned IPO
The coding agent launch comes as DeepSeek strengthens its financial position ahead of a planned initial public offering.
The company raised approximately 100 billion yuan ($15 billion) in its latest funding round, making it one of China’s largest financing rounds. The capital could support further investment in AI research and agent development as competition across the industry intensifies.
For the AI coding market, the next measure of competition will be how effectively these agents can handle development tasks with limited human supervision. DeepSeek’s Super-Agent is an early entry in that contest, though its practical capabilities are still to be established.
