Bihar is taking steps to strengthen its position in India’s growing technology sector, with the state Cabinet approving the Bihar AI Policy 2026. The move aims to encourage AI innovation, attract investments, support startups and create new opportunities for young people.

With this approval, Bihar joins the group of Indian states that have introduced a dedicated policy to promote artificial intelligence and build an ecosystem around the technology.

The decision was taken under the leadership of Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Choudhary, as part of the broader efforts to move towards a technology-driven economy. The policy is expected to provide a framework for developing AI capabilities while encouraging businesses, entrepreneurs and young innovators to explore opportunities in the sector.

What does the Bihar AI Policy 2026 aim to achieve?

The policy focuses on building an environment where AI companies, startups and digital businesses can establish and expand their operations in Bihar. It also seeks to strengthen the infrastructure needed to develop and deploy AI technologies.

According to details shared following the Cabinet’s approval, the state plans to offer financial incentives to eligible AI companies, startups and Global Capability Centres (GCCs). These may include capital investment subsidies, interest subsidies, support for cloud computing costs, rental assistance, electricity subsidies and incentives linked to employment generation. The policy also provides for reimbursement of State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) for eligible businesses.

Another important area is the use of AI beyond the technology industry. Bihar plans to encourage AI applications in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, manufacturing and urban services. These applications could help improve the delivery of public services, support decision-making and make operations more efficient.
